MINUTES OF JANUARY 8, 2008
Meeting was called to order 7:06 pm by Cheryl Sylvain.
SECRETARY’S MINUTES
The minutes for December 4th, 2008 were read. Moved by Diane Owens and seconded by Wendi Zuk to approve minutes of December 4th, 2008 meeting. Letter read from 6th grade student for consideration of PTO donation towards this student’s trip to Washington for academic program. PTO decided it cannot make a contribution to an individual student as it would be unfair to other students in similar situations.Motion to accept this decision by Rosina Marquis, seconded by Rosemary Goodwin.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Wendi Zuk reprted current balance as of 12/31/07 - $15,485.76. Concern about number of bounced checks, difficult to track down, loss of money due to fees incurred.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Harlem Rocket’s game all set – BHS gym reserved for 3/25/08. Tickets $6.oo in advance, $7.00 at door.
Staffing – Mr. Feeley no longer at McGee, permanent substitute hired.
VICE PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mrs. Janik not present
DEAN OF STUDENTS
Mr. Sachs reported award was received for McGee School Handbook 2007-2008. Book Fair last year successful, will repeat this year. Recently updated clublist will be posted on McGee website by 1/19. Will arrange for when Harlem Rockets players go around to schools.
COMMITEES
Membership – Sonal Dottor will try to reboost membership drive by sending out another membership letter with report cards, possible raffle also in February or March.
Cheryl Sylvain added the mid-year update for rest of year events, what PTO money is being spent on, to be sent home in letter with report cards.
Yankee Candle – Cheryl Sylvain stated will hold sale earlier next year, before Thanksgiving.
Book Fair – Helen deRito 3/17-3/20/08.
Harlem Rockets – Diane Owens 3/25/08.
Roger’s Receipts – Laura Swain , not present.
Box Tops – Nella Zelek – Reminder to donate boxtops to be sent with newsletter with report cards.
8th Grade Dance – Amy Viteri –will start sub-comitees for food, decorations. Mr. Sachs suggested glowstick bracelets to be worn at dance, possible purchase of Guitar Hero for dance. DJ still to be hired.. T-shirts possible for party favor from dance depending on price and donation to be asked for as admission to dance.
8th Grade Promotion – Debbie Lojko – will be distributing memo to 7th grade parents to donate baked goods for promotion.
OLD BUSINESS
8th Grade Courtyard donation – letter received from student who worked on courtyard, Mr.Benigni will call student to see what amount of donation is being requested.
Spring Fundraiser – Great American Co. – jewelry, children’s items -possible date around Mother’s Day. Ann Hall volunteered to chair.
Borders bookfair – Borders will get books that are on student’s summer reading list.
NEW BUSINESS
Upbeat – Cheryl Sylvain attended an Upbeat presentation. Future community presentation to be held to show what Upbeat does. Alice Mitchell will send invitations to 8th grade students and parents. Alice Mitchell needs parent volunteers for drop-ins on Friday nights. Also, Upbeat workshop to be held at Rocky Hill Marriott starting February 8th at 8pm to February 9th 12 noon. Topic: Cyberbullying. Workshop is FREE. Cheryl is unable to go and asked for volunteer from PTO to go and report back to PTO.
Jan. 24th forum held at McGee re: building of new high school.
BHS asked PTO for donation for BHS graduation all-night party. Diane Owens motion to accept, Deb Wezdenko motion to second making donation to BHS party.

MARCH 4, 2008
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 pm by Cheryl Sylvain.
SECRETARY’S MINUTES
The minutes of the January meeting were read. Moved by Michelle Pitkin and seconded by Cathy Carabetta to approve minutes of January meeting.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Wendi Zuk not present.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Nothing to report.
VICE PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Nothing to report.
DEAN OF STUDENTS - Mr. Sachs – excellent teacher presentations at Board of Education meeting.
COMMITEES:
Membership - Sonal Dottor, not present.
Jewelry Sale – Ann Hall – Sale started March 4, will end March 11. 40% profit for PTO.
Book Fair – Helen DeRito – March 17-20, sign-up for anyone available to work at book fair.
Harlem Rockets – Diane Owens – March 25. Tickets, posters distributed. Will need people to work at concession stand. Players to visit schools.
Roger’s receipts – Laura Swain- Last day of collection is April 6th. Final deposit has to be post-marked by April 25th. Redemption deadline post-marked by May 16th. Total so far: $60,231.66.
8th Grade Dance – plans going well, will discuss more at next PTO meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
8th grade courtyard donations - 2 students ( working on Eagle Scout) asking for donation for work done for courtyard. Motion made by Jackie Stites, seconded by Rosina Marquis to approve donation up to $1,ooo per student. PTO will give special consideration this year to fund this project.
NEW BUSINESS
March Madness donation – Motion made by Jackie Stites, seconded by Rosina Marquis to approve donation for $600, same amount as last year.

McGee Scholarship @BHS – same amount to be given as last year, after student finishes one semester of college.
Officers’ for next year – Cheryl Sylvain announced 2 openings for PTO for 2008-2009 school year: Vice President and Treasurer.
