Working in the Library

You are welcome to use the library during any period of the day with a 10-Minute-Library Pass (a blue pass) from your teacher.  This pass is used for short visits to the library.  For example, you may need to select a book, return a book, or make an appointment.  If you need to come for more than ten minutes or use a computer, you must obtain a Full-Period Pass (a yellow pass for Period H) from Mrs. Sencio or Ms. Averill.  Your teacher cannot give you a Full-Period Pass to the library-media center.  The following rules apply:  1. Come to the library to get the pass before the period-of-library use begins.  2.  Use the library for research purposes.  3.  Be prepared to stay for the whole period.  4.  Stay on task.  Important:  Always sign in on the clipboard at the circulation desk and put your pass in the box when you arrive at the library.  We must know who is in the library at all times.

Food, drink, makeup, balms, ointments, lotions, chewed gum can soil and damage library materials, equipment, and furnishings.  Help to take good care of your library-media center by using these items in more appropriate locations.

Borrowing Materials

You may check out two items at a time.  If you have borrowed one book and it is overdue, you may not borrow a second book.  All library privileges are suspended until you return the item or pay for it if you cannot find it.  Library privileges include visiting the library independently and using the library-media-center computers.  Materials usually circulate for three weeks.  Sometimes you may be allowed to borrow a book for overnight only.   Overnight books must be returned to the library first thing the following morning.  Reference books do not circulate.  Please go to the circulation desk to sign out and return materials.

Accelerated Reader Program

Please participate!  All you need to do is read!  The program works as follows:  1. Sign out a book from our Accelerated-Reader list.  2.  Read the book.  3.  Make an appointment to take the test.  4.  If you pass the test, you will earn points.  You can use the points to select items on display in the showcase!  At the end of the year you will be able to attend an event during which top participants are recognized.
