Hallway Passports

Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kelly Maio, the new Dean of Students at McGee Middle School. I am excited to be part of the Berlin educational community and look forward to working with you and your children throughout the school year.

Today, your child received a variety of information during Morning Meeting. I would like to draw your attention to the student agenda. As all returning students and parents are aware, McGee policy states that all students use this agenda to record assignments in each class daily. This requirement assists students in organizing and prioritizing short-term and long-term assignments, while also helping to promote responsibility.

There is an important addition to the agenda this year. Each agenda contains a section entitled Hallway Passport. When students wish to leave the classroom, they are required to log the date, time, and destination in this section. Examples include: lavatory, media center, computer lab, office, and other classrooms. Students are then required to have their teacher initial the Hallway Passport before leaving the classroom. The purpose of this new procedure is to improve monitoring of all students throughout the day. Due to hygienic reasons, students will not carry their agendas with them when using the lavatory, but are required to have them at all other times.

Should a student lose his or her agenda, replacement agendas will be available in the Main Office at a cost of $5.00.

I appreciate your ongoing support in ensuring that students at McGee Middle School receive a superior education. If you have any questions, please contact me at 828-0323 ext. 555.

Sincerely,

Kelly S. Maio
Dean of Students
